Execuses by some premier league managers
Sir Alex
Sir Alex is never beaten - it's only the score that sometimes suggests Manchester United have lost when some dirty, rotten team team has got extremely lucky. When parading yet another new strip - a grey one - United found themselves 3-0 down to Southampton at half-time in 1996, Sir Alex offered : "The players could not see each other." They switch to white shirts but still lost 3-1. The grey kit was never seen again.
Kenny Dalglish
In 1998 his midas touch was beginning to desert him. In the pre-Guilt days, Newcastle were not only struggling they were playing un-sexy football and clearly didn't fancy it when drawn away to little Stevenage in the FA Cup. After trying to get the tie switched to St. James's Park, Dalglish lost the PR battle to the minnows. On the bitterly cold day, the game was played on a frozen pitch and Newcastle weere lucky to escape with a draw. Dalglish blamed " the balls being too bouncy".

He is always good value for a quid. But the ex-Manchester United manager was no slouch at excuses, either, especially when he was playing in the 1954 World Cup, Scotland's official messed up big-time, taking a squad of just 13 players. But when they lost 7-0 to Uruguay, the Doc didn't blame the organisation but the length of the Uruguayan national anthem, which he said "kept the Scotland players standing to attention for too long before the game started.
